Commons Chair 2025–2026: A Collective Fellowship to Rethink Food Systems

The Institut d'études avancées in Nantes is pleased to announce Claudia Rosina Bara, Paola Abril Campos, and Karla Nicol Hernández Puente as the laureates of the inaugural Commons: Knowledge, Power, Crises Chair for the 2025–2026 academic year. They will arrive at the Institute in April 2026 for a period of three months.

Created in the context of contemporary transitions, this chair seeks to explore the commons at the intersection of knowledge, forms of power, and crisis dynamics. It aims to foster collective and transdisciplinary reflections on issues of appropriation, transmission, and shared governance across diverse fields such as the environment, health, knowledge, and food systems.

Research Project

Their project, Reimagining Food Systems: International Lessons and Practices for Advancing Food as Commons, explores food systems as commons at the intersection of agroecology, public health, solidarity economy, and Indigenous knowledge. Drawing on experiences from Mexico and Europe, they examine forms of shared governance, the role of gender, and the connections between food sovereignty, sustainability, and social justice. Their residency will culminate in an international gathering and the creation of shared tools to promote equitable, inclusive, and ecologically sustainable food systems.
