The Chairs of the Nantes Institute for Advanced Study are research and creative platforms designed to explore major contemporary challenges over the long term through interdisciplinary and international approaches. They combine research and artistic residencies, scientific partnerships, and opportunities for dialogue with society, with particular attention given to exchanges between local and international contexts.
Today, the Institute develops three flagship Chairs:
- Chair on Inhabiting through the Lens of Planetary Boundaries
Exploring the relationships between territories, environments, urbanism, architecture, and ecological transformations. - Chair on Arts, Societies and Contemporary Transformations
An international artistic residency programme examining the connections between creative practice, embodied and sensory forms of knowledge, and contemporary societal change. - Chair on Commons: Knowledge, Power and Crises
Dedicated to shared resources, collective forms of governance, and the construction and transmission of common memories.
Each Chair welcomes researchers, artists, and practitioners in residence, fostering encounters across disciplines, knowledge traditions, and experiences.
Additional Chairs are currently under development and will progressively enrich this programme, supporting the emergence of new fields of research, dialogue, and cooperation.
