HIAS Summer School 2025 in Hamburg on Food, Ecology, and Conviviality

The HIAS Summer School 2025, titled "Eating Together. Food, Ecology, and Conviviality", will take place in Hamburg from 7 to 12 July. It invites early-career researchers to participate in an interdisciplinary event exploring the connections between food, ecology, and social practices. Applications are open until 23 May 2025.

The HIAS Summer School 2025, organized by the University of Hamburg, offers a unique program designed to bring together emerging researchers in a stimulating environment to discuss contemporary issues related to food, ecology, and conviviality. This event, taking place in Hamburg from 7 to 12 July 2025, is specifically aimed at PhD students and postdoctoral researchers.

This year’s central theme, "Eating Together. Food, Ecology, and Conviviality", invites participants to explore how food practices shape our social relationships, environment, and the communities we live in. The interdisciplinary program will foster exchange between researchers from diverse disciplines and backgrounds, offering a valuable opportunity for networking and future collaboration.

The summer school is open to early-career researchers (PhD students and postdocs) working on related topics. Relevant disciplines include, but are not limited to, anthropology, sociology, ethics, philosophy, geography, history, (agro-)ecology, nutritional sciences, environmental humanities, linguistics, (inter)cultural studies, political science, law, and economics.

Applications are open until 23 May 2025. Interested researchers are invited to submit their application online.
