The essential

This “classic” call for applications is aimed at researchers who wish to temporarily leave their country, institution and disciplinary framework to carry out an ambitious project. The Institut d'études avancées de Nantes does not exclude any field of research or academic discipline.

The Institute's hallmark is its intense North-South dialogue, which gives full scope to thinking from the South. The Institut d'études avancées de Nantes specializes in the humanities and social sciences, and covers a wide range of research topics, from philosophy and biology to history, literature, political science and economics. Residents are encouraged to collaborate with local researchers and contribute to the intellectual life of the Nantes region.

Resident researchers also take part in seminars, conferences and other academic activities within the institute.

Profiles and conditions

This call for applications is aimed at researchers with a doctorate who wish to leave their country, institution and disciplinary framework temporarily to carry out an ambitious project. The Institut d'études avancées de Nantes does not exclude any field of research or academic discipline.

A residency lasts 9 months, from the beginning of October to the end of June.
Between 5 and 7 residencies are offered each year.

The call for applications for a residency in 2024-2025 is now closed.
The call for applications for a residency in 2025-2026 is now closed.
The call for applications for a residency in 2026-2027 will open around March 2025.

 

The implementation schedule for the 2025-2026 academic year is as follows:

  • Closure of the call for applications: May 31, 2024
  • Scientific evaluation of applications: June - November 2024
  • Selection of residents : December 2024
  • Notification of results to selected candidates: January 2025
  • Start of residencies: October 2025
  • End of residencies: June 2026
