Inhabiting the Earth week
From 12 to 16 November 2024, the research project Towards an international network of rivers and other elements of nature, led by Camille de Toledo, transformed the Institute and its partners into a forum for reflection and exchange on the rights of nature.
Researchers, artists, politicians and citizens came together to question our relationship with the environment and imagine new ways of living with it. Through conferences, workshops and inspiring stories, the week opened up new horizons and showed that dialogue between humans and non-humans is more essential than ever. Here's a look back at a week rich in ideas and emotions.

Tuesday 12 November 2024: Caring for a vulnerable world
The week got off to a flying start at Le Lieu Unique with a lecture by Michel Lussault: a poignant reflection on the challenges of urbanisation and its ecological impact. He captivated the audience by suggesting ways, inspired by Care theories, of imagining new ways of cohabiting with our environment. A great start to a week of debate and ideas!
Wednesday 13 November 2024: Giving nature a voice
Camille de Toledo and Charlène Descollonges spoke at the Jacques Demy library about the future of ecosystems. Using the example of the Parliament of the Loire, they invited the public to think about the rights of rivers and a new way of interacting with nature. It was a meeting rich in emotion and innovative visions!
Thursday 14 and Friday 15 November 2024: Designing a new world
At the Institut d'Études Avancées, in-house round tables brought together researchers, artists and politicians to explore the Towards an International Network of Rivers... Project. Lively discussions, Axelle Grégoire's visionary sketches and reflections on the governance of natural entities were the order of the day. Two days of collective work to lay the foundations for a future where humans and non-humans coexist in harmony.
Saturday 16 November 2024: A day to listen to the voices of the Earth
At Le Lieu Unique, the project Towards an international network of rivers... opened its doors to the public. From the Whanganui river to the Mar Menor lagoon, each story told transported the audience to a world where nature and law meet. The morning's stories gave way to an afternoon dedicated to the fight for the Spanish lagoon, followed by a transformative meditation by Camille de Toledo to imagine the laws of tomorrow. An intense day full of hope!
